People of any faith who want a break from everyday distractions, for calm and time alone, can enjoy the seclusion and silence of our Poustinias - or hermitages.
‘Poustinia’, a Russian word means a place apart. Our Poustinias offer somewhere to just be in solitude and to experience the quiet stillness, serenity and peace within Waxwell's ten acres of grounds.

Apple and Apricot
These adjacent Poustinias each consist of a spacious bed-sit with a kitchen area. There is a shared shower and toilet. They are insulated and double-glazed.
Walnut
Walnut is slightly smaller and a chalet-style construction with a bed-sitting room, kitchen, shower and toilet. There is a thermostatically controlled heating system.
Covered verandahs provide an additional sheltered seating area since each Poustinia overlooks part of the conservation area of the Grail garden.
Bedding and towels are provided in all three Poustinias.
Lunch can usually be provided by prior arrangement and can either be eaten with the Community or taken away.
For resident poustiniks we provde some basic foods including milk, bread and eggs. There are several supermarkets in and around Pinner and each poustinia has a fridge, small oven and microwave.
The days are yours to use as you wish. If you want help with how to spend your time, or would like some spiritual accompaniment please let us know when you book. Details of worship in the local churches are to be found in each poustinia, together with other general information and guidance.
People tell us, in the Grail Community, about the serenity and peace they experience here, tucked away as we are between busy Pinner and the roaring Uxbridge Road. To put our home at the disposal of others seems to us to be a way of appreciating it and of thanking God for this gift which we simply call Waxwell.
